This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
This training is provided at Australian Educare College full-time only at 20 hours per week with course breaks scheduled throughout the training. Training is divided into mandatory study periods during which all units are delivered through supervised, scheduled and monitored face-to-face tutorial style training in training rooms. There is also a mandatory work placement component scheduled after the delivery of all units of competency, students must complete 120 hours of work placement at the specified community services facility.
